About PlugWattLab

Privacy policy

The short version: you don't need an account, our calculators run in your browser, and we don't set cookies of our own. When ads go live, Google and its partners will use cookies as described below.

Who we are

PlugWattLab (plugwattlab.com) is an independent website. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean PlugWattLab. For any question about this policy or your information, email hello@plugwattlab.com.

What we collect

  • Server logs. Like almost every website, the servers that host PlugWattLab record basic technical details when a page loads: your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, the page you came from and the time. These logs keep the site running and secure, and are kept for a limited period.
  • Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you include. We use it to reply, and keep it only as long as we need it for that conversation.
  • What you enter in our tools. The calculators, the power station finder and the rules map work entirely in your browser. What you type or select isn't sent to us or stored.
  • Newsletter. Sign-up isn't open yet, and the form on our home page doesn't send or store anything. We'll update this policy before a newsletter launches.

We don't run analytics, and our fonts and scripts load from our own server, so reading a page doesn't contact any third party. That changes when ads go live, as explained next.

Advertising

PlugWattLab is funded by display ads served by Google AdSense. Ads aren't running yet. This section describes what will apply once they are, and we'll change the date at the top of this page when that happens.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google'sAds Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising ataboutads.info (US) oryouronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
  • Google explains how it uses information from sites like ours inHow Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
  • If you're in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, we'll ask for your consent before advertising cookies are set on your device, and you can change your choice at any time.

Our cookie policy has more detail.

Why we use your information (UK and EU)

  • Server logs: our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website.
  • Emails: our legitimate interest in replying to you.
  • Advertising cookies: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who we share it with

  • Our hosting and email providers, which store and process data on our behalf.
  • Google and its advertising partners, once ads are live, as described above.
  • Authorities, if the law requires us to.

We don't sell your personal information.

Where your information is processed

Our providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Where UK or EU data protection law applies, these transfers rely on the safeguards those laws allow, such as standard contractual clauses.

UK and EU. You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy of it. If something is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. US states. If you live in California or another state with a consumer privacy law, you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising. We don't sell personal information for money. Once ads are live, you'll be able to opt out of personalised ads using the choices described above. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
