Information, not advice

Our guides, calculators and comparisons are general information. They aren't electrical, legal, financial or other professional advice, and they can't take your home, your wiring or your local rules into account. Check with a qualified professional before you act on them.

Electrical safety

Mains electricity can kill. Only use plug-in solar kits, power stations and home batteries as their manufacturers instruct, and check that they're certified for use in your country. Don't modify plugs, cables or equipment. Never connect a generator, power station or battery to your home's wiring unless a qualified electrician has installed a proper transfer switch or interlock.

Rules change

Laws and utility rules for plug-in solar are changing quickly. We show the date we last checked each rule, but before you buy or install anything, confirm the current position with your regulator, your network operator or utility and, if it applies, your landlord or homeowners' association.

Calculators give estimates

Our calculators use the assumptions shown on each tool. Real results depend on your location, weather, shading, equipment and how you use power, and will differ from our estimates.

Products and prices

Product specifications come from manufacturers unless we say otherwise, and prices change often. We don't sell anything ourselves: any purchase is between you and the retailer, under the retailer's terms.

Links to other sites

We link to laws, regulators, manufacturers, retailers and other publications. We aren't responsible for their content or for how they handle your information.

Our content

The text, data, tools and design on PlugWattLab belong to us unless stated otherwise. You're welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with credit and a link. Please don't copy whole pages or republish our tools or data without permission.

No warranty

We work hard to keep the site accurate and up to date, but we provide it "as is", without guarantees that it's complete, current or free of errors.
